Free Web Resources For Science Projects

It's science fair time! We've been busy helping Centerville students find resources as they plan their projects. There are many useful books in the library, but they fly off the shelves this time of year, so here is a list of handy web resources to use instead.

Facts on File Science Online
You WCPL library card gets you access to the Facts on File database. Enter through our website. Appropriate for grade-school students, it contains ideas for experiments, step-by-step directions, and articles for background research.

How Stuff Works - Science
Fun explanations of everyday occurrences. Explore the natural world, the human body, engineering, space, military technology, physics and even supernatural phenomena.
 
Science Online Web Links
A list of vetted websites organized by category: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computers, Earth Science,  Environmental Issues, General Science, Genetics, Marine Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Weather. Also a great source of biographical information on scientists.

The Science Channel
From the folks behind those cool programs on the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel website is a portal to information on technology, outer space,  geology, oceanography and weather.

Encyclopedia of Life
This site contains information on each of the 1.8 million known species on the planet. Search by common or scientific name. Advanced information is approrpriate for older students or science buffs.
