Internet Security 101

Last week, we shared some web-safety tips for parents. Today, we're focusing on online security for adults.

American Public Media recently interviewed personal finance journalist and author Carmen Wong Ulrich on ways to protect yourself online. Here are the highlights:
  • Don't use the same username and password for everything. It is particularly important to have a unique password for online banking. Never use the same password for banking and shopping.
  • Don't announce on Facebook or Twitter that you are on vacation or at an airport.
  • Do all your online banking from your home computer. Never use public or unsecured wi-fi for banking.
  • If you bank from your phone, be sure the phone is password protected. Otherwise, if you lose your phone, the finder has access to your money.
