American Public Media recently interviewed personal finance journalist and author Carmen Wong Ulrich on ways to protect yourself online. Here are the highlights:
- Don't use the same username and password for everything. It is particularly important to have a unique password for online banking. Never use the same password for banking and shopping.
- Don't announce on Facebook or Twitter that you are on vacation or at an airport.
- Do all your online banking from your home computer. Never use public or unsecured wi-fi for banking.
- If you bank from your phone, be sure the phone is password protected. Otherwise, if you lose your phone, the finder has access to your money.
